Communications Technical Assistant – Iraq Operations

About the role

The Communications Technical Assistant provides first‑line technical support for a wide range of communications equipment used across Control Risks operations in Iraq. You will ensure that radios, tracking systems and related hardware are operational, properly maintained, and ready for deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line support for Motorola handheld and vehicle‑mounted radios, HF/UHF, TETRA, satellite phones, antennas, chargers and batteries.
• Conduct fault finding, testing and diagnostics, and perform daily, weekly and monthly equipment checks.
• Assist with installation, removal, inspection and testing of vehicle‑mounted communications systems and IVMS/vehicle tracking devices.
• Maintain accurate electronic records of equipment issues, inspections, serial numbers and serviceability status.
• Liaise with suppliers, internal departments and project teams on repairs, installations and technical support.
• Deputise for the Communications Manager when required and support project logistics, including mobilisation and demobilisation.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with Iraqi agencies and suppliers.
• Good spoken and written English.
• IT literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and experience using computer‑based accounting systems.
• Familiarity with IVMS, vehicle tracking systems and vehicle electrical/comms integration.
• Knowledge of Iraqi cultural norms and business etiquette.
