ReliefWeb
Job description
About the role
WoMin, an African ecofeminist alliance founded in 2013, is seeking a Women Building Power for Climate Justice Lead to lead its Women's Climate Justice (WCJ) team. The role is remote, based anywhere in Francophone West Africa, and focuses on building an African women's movement for climate justice centred on ecofeminist and Pan-African politics, with particular attention to false green energy solutions such as gas and oil in West Africa, climate reparations and energy alternatives held in the commons.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the WCJ programme, leading women's organising, movement building, research, advocacy and campaigning.
- Manage and mentor the WCJ team, coordinating with WoMin's other programmes and units.
- Lead oil and gas organising and campaigning, working with partners, allies and the Women's Climate Assembly.
- Support women's assemblies and national/sub-national platforms in priority West African countries.
- Coordinate with the Movement Support Unit and connect the work to the wider Pan-African agenda, including Central Africa and the Congo Basin.
- Strengthen Pan-African women-led climate organising, build knowledge through participatory research, training and exchanges, and engage with African climate justice networks and institutions.
- Support fundraising and donor engagement, develop strategies, budgets and reports, and represent WoMin at regional and global platforms.
- Lead communications and media work, including writing, media engagement and podcasts.
Required profile
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Human Rights, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies or a related field; relevant work experience is also valued.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in the non-profit sector, including at least 5 years in programme/project development, management and coordination.
- Proven experience supporting people's organising and women's movement building with a feminist orientation.
- Demonstrated campaigning, advocacy, network and alliance-building experience, ideally at sub-regional or Pan-African level.
- Understanding of power, inequality and exclusion, with report/proposal writing experience; participatory research, facilitation and popular education are highly desirable.
- Must be a Francophone African woman based in West Africa.
Required skills
- Leadership and people management, and donor/grant and financial management experience.
- Strategic and analytical skills, with knowledge of participatory, feminist and movement-oriented MEL approaches.
- Participatory, democratic and inclusive leadership style, with integrity, accountability and confidentiality.
The position is a 3-year renewable contract subject to funding and performance. Applications are made through the vacancies page of the recruitment agency handling the posting, with applications due by 9 November 2026.
