Senior Project Associate (Livelihoods)

About the role

IOM, a UN-related agency focused on migration, is recruiting a Senior Project Associate (Livelihoods) in Erbil, Iraq. The post sits under the supervision of the Head of Livelihoods Technical team and the direct supervision of the National Project Officer – Livelihoods, and supports livelihoods programmes, including training, business development, employability and labour standards. The position is based in Erbil with travel to other governorates as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Support the National Project Officer in developing and updating training materials for beneficiaries, covering business development, employability, labour standards, registration and banking.
• Monitor, spot-check and assess trainings and livelihoods activities, and give feedback to technical and operational teams.
• Run regular capacity-building sessions for operations teams on training materials, tools, systems and processes.
• Coordinate with the National Project Officer and Information Management colleagues on programme tools and their integration into information systems.
• Visit project sites to monitor beneficiaries and ensure activities follow guidelines, tools and procedures.
• Carry out quality control and assurance of livelihoods activities, including monitoring, verification, mentorship and community feedback mechanisms.
• Coordinate with government entities, local authorities, NGOs and private sector partners to align interventions with national policies and local priorities.
• Track trainings and activities in the system, flag errors, help teams correct them and report system issues.
• Prepare reports, briefs and overviews for internal and external use, including donors and stakeholders.
• Review and quality check business plans, verification documents and other programme documentation.
• Monitor programme indicators and progress against approved workplans, and assist in coordinating referrals to other units.
• Help field teams mainstream gender, disability, protection and accountability to affected populations, and document changes in livelihoods SOPs and guidance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields, with four years of relevant professional experience; or a school diploma with six years of experience.
• Experience liaising with governmental authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and other institutions, and working with migrants, refugees, IDPs and other vulnerable groups.
• Experience with international humanitarian organizations in a multicultural setting is an advantage; experience coordinating with local authorities and service providers is desirable.
• Fluency in English, French or Spanish, one of IOM's official languages.

Required skills

• Knowledge of livelihoods, recovery, resilience or community-based programming approaches.
• Understanding of field implementation, operational follow-up and monitoring.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Data collection, reporting and use of implementation tracking tools is desirable.
