HVAC/Chiller Technician – US Embassy Baghdad

About the role

The HVAC/Chiller Technician will work in the HVAC shop of the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. Reporting to the HVAC Supervisor, the technician leads installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of HVAC equipment across the embassy compound and other designated sites.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair 200‑ton direct‑drive semi‑hermetic rotary twin‑screw MTS compressor chillers, air handling units (AHUs) and fan‑coil units.
• Service DX units ranging from 1‑ton to 150‑ton modular equipment using various refrigerants.
• Perform upkeep on variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors (5‑40 hp), and chilled‑water circulation pumps.
• Troubleshoot chiller control boards and work safely with high AC and DC voltages.
• Maintain VAV boxes, electric heaters, exhaust fans, and conduct daily equipment inspections as part of the RCM program.
• Use refrigerant charging and recovery equipment, keep accurate inspection reports, logbooks, and inventory records.
• Provide 24/7 on‑call support for critical issues and assist with special projects as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum seven (7) years of commercial HVAC repair experience.
• Ability to safely lift at least 70 lb and perform physical labor.
• Experience in OCONUS operations or international maintenance projects preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and independent decision‑making skills.
• Cross‑cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
