Government Relations Officer (Legal)

About the role

We are seeking a Government Relations Officer (Legal) to join Baly’s Government Relations team. The role will support regulatory, licensing and legal compliance activities, acting as the primary liaison between the company and Iraqi government authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain professional relationships with ministries, regulatory bodies and other government entities.
• Process and follow up on company licenses, permits, registrations and official approvals to ensure timely completion.
• Represent Baly before governmental organizations when required.
• Monitor regulatory changes, assess business impact and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
• Prepare, review and organize legal correspondence, official letters and government submissions.
• Maintain accurate records of licenses, permits, contracts and regulatory documentation, ensuring renewal before expiration.
• Coordinate with HR on labor law matters, with Finance on tax and compliance requirements, and with Operations and Commercial teams on licensing needs.
• Identify potential legal or regulatory risks, support internal audits and ensure compliance with internal policies.

Required profile

• Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Strong knowledge of Iraqi laws, regulations and government procedures.
• Proven experience in government relations, regulatory affairs or legal compliance.
• Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with Legal, HR, Finance and Operations teams.
