Legal Translation and Training Services Manager

About the role

The American University of Iraq – Baghdad is seeking an experienced professional to lead the Center for Legal Translation Services & Training within the College of Law. Reporting to the Dean, the Manager will oversee translation, interpretation, training, and professional development services for internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the Center, including staffing, scheduling, quality control, and client coordination.
• Oversee legal translation projects of Iraqi laws, regulations, and official documents into English and other languages.
• Coordinate certified and specialized commercial translation services for a range of sectors.
• Provide and manage interpretation services for court, governmental, diplomatic, academic, and corporate assignments.
• Develop and deliver training programs in legal translation and various modes of interpretation.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with universities, governmental bodies, NGOs, and private‑sector entities.

Required profile

• PhD in Translation, Applied Linguistics, Law, Interpretation or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in legal translation/interpretation and at least 7 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong expertise in Iraqi legal terminology and institutions.
• Excellent Arabic (native) and English communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects and develop professional training curricula.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Computer‑Assisted Translation (CAT) tools and translation‑management systems.
• Familiarity with interpretation equipment and related technology.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience using learning management systems and digital training technologies.
