Chemical QAQC Engineer

About the role

Wood is recruiting a Chemical QAQC Engineer for its Iraq business unit, based in Basra on a full-time on-site basis with a 5 days on, 2 days off rotation. The role covers quality monitoring, inspection, analysis, evaluation and continuous improvement of crude oil, water and production chemicals used in oilfield production operations, from incoming materials through to field application.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and verify incoming production chemicals against certificates, technical specifications, batch consistency and packaging integrity, and approve only qualified chemicals for field use.
• Sample, test and accept chemicals in line with company procedures and standards, and monitor quality during storage, handling, dilution, injection and application.
• Inspect storage conditions, shelf life, dosing practices and chemical performance, and identify quality deviations early.
• Maintain records of inspection results, laboratory reports and quality data, analyse trends and prepare quality reports with recommendations.
• Investigate quality issues, work with suppliers, laboratories and technical teams to find root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Implement corporate QA/QC procedures, support audits and compliance reviews, and help develop and improve chemical quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field; master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 5+ years of oilfield experience with a chemical management background from IOCs or specialist chemical supply companies.
• Willingness to spend 30-40% of working time in the field.
• Relevant HSE, process safety, operations or technical certifications in line with company requirements.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of crude oil processing chemical treatment, water treatment, production stimulation, chemical selection and treatment.
• Upstream-related laboratory analytical methods and chemical management.
