Junior I&C Engineer - Desalination Plant

About the role

The Junior I&C Engineer reports to the Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor Engineer and supports the Basrah Desalination Plant maintenance team in keeping instrumentation and control equipment in good condition. The role is supervised directly by senior engineers so that the candidate builds the competencies needed for a full Instrumentation & Control Engineer position, in line with the Integrated Management System, O&M manuals and the O&M contract.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, monitoring and upgrade of instrumentation, control equipment and electrical installations
• Monitor and calibrate instrumentation and control systems under supervision
• Support coordination of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance tasks
• Diagnose malfunctions using test equipment and hand tools, and repair motors, valves and actuators
• Maintain wires and electrical lines for continuity and keep records and technical documentation up to date
• Record observations and raise suggestions to improve reliability and reduce failures
• Prepare instrumentation reports, monitor spare parts and issue documents, and coordinate with subcontractors
• Use tools correctly, help the Instrumentation Team in the field, and participate in the Permit to Work system
• Follow company policies, keep housekeeping standards, work overtime when required and pursue on-the-job training

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher diploma in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation (minimum)
• 0-2 years of relevant experience; fresh graduates with strong academic results and internship/training exposure are encouraged to apply
• Exposure to a power plant or Gulf countries is a plus

Required skills

• Written and spoken English
• Basic knowledge of electrical and instrumentation tools, equipment and practices
• Fundamentals of pump, motor and valve operation; basic high/low voltage and lock-out awareness
• Ability to read and begin interpreting P&IDs and electrical drawings
• Plus: VSDs, CMMS and high-pressure environments
