Internal Auditor

About the role

The American University of Iraq‑Baghdad seeks a qualified Internal Auditor to provide independent assurance over its academic and administrative functions. The role supports the university’s strategic objectives by identifying risks, evaluating controls, and recommending improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a risk‑based annual internal audit plan covering all university operations and present it to senior leadership for approval.
• Plan and execute financial audits of tuition revenue, procurement, payroll, treasury, and grant management to ensure accuracy and safeguard assets.
• Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of academic and administrative processes such as admissions, facilities, IT, HR, and auxiliary services.
• Verify compliance with university policies, Iraqi laws, Ministry of Higher Education regulations, accreditation standards, donor requirements, and contractual obligations.
• Provide assurance on governance, risk‑management frameworks, and internal control environments without assuming operational responsibility.
• Prepare clear audit reports with risk‑ranked recommendations and track corrective actions through to closure.
• Conduct special reviews, investigations, and advisory engagements on suspected fraud, waste, abuse, or ethics violations.
