Technical Project Assistant

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Iraq is seeking a Technical Project Assistant to support field‑level implementation of agricultural activities, with a focus on date palm production systems and farmer support in Basra. The role works under the direct supervision of the FAO representative and collaborates closely with technical teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the technical team in organizing meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Support crop management and the application of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in farmers’ orchards.
• Facilitate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) activities and post‑harvest treatments, processing, and marketing.
• Prepare technical documents, training materials, and communication assets.
• Coordinate logistics for trainings, events, field visits, and travel arrangements.
• Liaise with Farmer Field School (FFS) facilitators, collect and monitor field data, and consolidate reports from Survey123.
• Maintain office files, equipment inventories, and produce periodic activity reports.

Required profile

• University degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Plant Protection or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in agricultural field projects.
• Resident of Basra Governorate or willing to be based full‑time in Basra.
• Working knowledge of Arabic; English is desirable.
