Senior Cost Accountant

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to lead cost accounting activities within a large‑scale tobacco manufacturing operation. The role focuses on monitoring production costs, analysing variances, maintaining accurate inventory valuation, and delivering actionable financial insights to boost efficiency and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and monitor cost accounting systems, procedures and internal controls.
• Calculate and analyse product costs, manufacturing expenses and inventory valuations.
• Prepare monthly cost reports and variance analyses for management review.
• Monitor raw material consumption, production, labour and overhead allocations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Reconcile inventory balances and investigate discrepancies.
• Ensure accurate recording of manufacturing transactions in the ERP/accounting system.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing related to cost accounting.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and support process‑improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with production, procurement, warehouse and finance teams to ensure accurate cost reporting.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, accounting standards and internal controls.
• Support internal and external audits by providing required financial data and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of cost‑accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory management and financial reporting.
• Fluent in Kurdish, Arabic and English (written and spoken).
• High attention to detail, analytical mindset and ability to work under pressure.
• Professional accounting certifications are an advantage.

Required skills

• Experience with ERP systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
