Public Health Manager – Iraq

About the role

The Public Health Manager supports the Department of State Diplomatic Platform Support Services program, providing comprehensive public health oversight for U.S. Embassy operations and facilities in Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Manage public health surveillance programs, disease prevention initiatives, and occupational health reporting.
• Conduct food safety inspections, ensure compliance with the U.S. FDA Food Code, and investigate foodborne illness outbreaks.
• Monitor and report infectious disease incidents, occupational injuries, and communicable disease trends.
• Inspect potable water systems for compliance with U.S. EPA drinking water standards and publish heat index alerts.
• Design and evaluate epidemiological studies, research protocols, and statistical analyses related to public health.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, environmental health or related field.
• 10–15 years of progressive public health experience, including overseas or contingency operations.
• U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain a Moderate Risk Public Trust clearance, and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and passport with required validity.

Required skills

• Current ServSafe certification.
• Experience with FDA Food Code inspections.
• Knowledge of EPA drinking water standards.
• Statistical analysis and public health data interpretation.
• Epidemiological research and outbreak investigation.
