Process Engineer - Oil & Gas Projects, Basra

About the role

Wood is recruiting a Process Engineer for its Iraq business unit, reporting to the Lead Process Engineer. The role is full-time and on-site in Basra, Iraq, with travel required. It supports process engineering activities across a brownfield engineering and design contract for an international client, covering flare system revamps, asset rehabilitation, BTEX emission control, flare gas recovery and equipment upgrades. The engineer works with a team of engineers and designers based in Basra and Dubai.

Key responsibilities

• Execute process engineering activities in line with HSEQ requirements, project procedures, regulations, industry codes and engineering standards.
• Prepare and review deliverables such as design basis documents, BFDs, PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, process simulations, datasheets, equipment and line lists, process descriptions and control and safeguarding philosophies.
• Perform process calculations, equipment sizing, hydraulic assessments, relief and depressurization studies and facility capacity evaluations.
• Take part in site visits, walkdowns, field data collection and as-built verification, and update as-built process documents.
• Identify and implement improvements to plant facilities, processes and turnarounds, and troubleshoot process and equipment problems.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and other process safety and technical assessments.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams (piping, mechanical, instrumentation) and interface with clients, operators, vendors and contractors.
• Deliver detailed designs, performance specifications and process studies, and meet discipline cost and schedule targets.
