Junior Mechanical Engineer - Desalination Plant

About the role

The Junior Mechanical Engineer reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer and supports the Basrah Desalination Plant maintenance team in keeping mechanical equipment in good condition. Working under the direct supervision of senior engineers, the role builds the competencies needed for a full Mechanical Engineer position, in line with the Integrated Management System, O&M manuals and the O&M contract.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, monitoring and upgrade of mechanical equipment and installations
• Support coordination of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance tasks (daily, weekly, monthly and annual)
• Diagnose malfunctioning equipment using test equipment and hand tools under guidance
• Test, dismantle and assist in repairing pumps, valves and other equipment
• Assist with motor and pump alignment
• Maintain records, files and technical documentation, and help prepare maintenance reports
• Monitor spare parts and complete store issuance documents
• Support coordination with subcontractors and the use of maintenance tools
• Take part in the Permit to Work system and follow company policies and housekeeping standards
• Work overtime when required and pursue on-the-job training toward full Mechanical Engineer competency

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher diploma in Mechanical Engineering (minimum)
• 0-2 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience; fresh graduates with strong academic results and internship exposure are encouraged to apply
• Exposure to desalination, RO plants and membrane works is a plus
• Spoken and written English
• Ability to work under pressure, in a team and to manage time and workload

Required skills

• Fundamentals of pump, motor and valve operation
• Reading and interpreting P&IDs and technical diagrams
• Basic knowledge of vibration and temperature testing, CMMS, corrosion and fatigue, and high-pressure environments (all pluses)
