Operations Specialist – Groceries

About the role

Baly, Iraq’s leading super‑app, is expanding its grocery dark‑store network and seeks an Operations Specialist to support day‑to‑day performance and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will help ensure efficient order fulfillment, accurate inventory, and high productivity across stores.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Operations Manager in overseeing daily operations of grocery dark stores.
• Monitor store performance against KPIs, identifying gaps and driving corrective actions.
• Track the full order fulfillment process – acceptance, picking, scanning, packing, staging, and rider hand‑over.
• Measure picking time, accuracy, order preparation time, and overall store productivity.
• Watch for short picks, out‑of‑stock events, cancellations, substitutions and operational errors.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain on replenishment, stock transfers and product availability.
• Support inventory‑control activities such as cycle counts, stock adjustments, expiry checks, damages and waste management.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies and coordinate resolutions with store supervisors and supply‑chain teams.
• Ensure FIFO/FEFO practices, food‑safety, hygiene and temperature‑control standards are followed.
• Coordinate operational needs for promotions, campaigns, assortment changes and peak periods.
• Monitor picker productivity, staffing requirements and shift coverage.
• Help onboard and train store supervisors and pickers.
• Conduct store visits, operational audits and follow‑up on identified gaps.
• Handle escalations and work with relevant teams for timely resolution.
• Support new dark‑store openings, including setup, staffing, training, stocking, testing and go‑live preparation.
• Prepare regular operational reports highlighting issues and improvement opportunities.
• Participate in continuous‑improvement initiatives to boost speed, quality, productivity and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations, Supply Chain or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in operations, grocery, retail, e‑commerce or quick‑commerce environments.
• Prior experience in dark stores, online grocery or high‑volume retail is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of store operations, order fulfillment, inventory control and workforce productivity.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
