Mechanical Engineer – EPC Oil & Gas Project

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will be based on‑site in Basra, Iraq, supervising and executing mechanical installation works for static and rotary equipment on an EPC oil & gas construction project. The role ensures safe execution, compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, international standards and HSE requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise installation of static equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, tanks and separators.
• Oversee alignment, grouting and erection of rotary equipment including pumps, compressors, blowers and package units.
• Monitor piping installation, supports, fit‑up and preparation for hydrostatic testing.
• Verify foundation work, anchor bolt positioning and base‑plate leveling before equipment erection.
• Conduct cold and hot shaft alignment, pre‑commissioning mechanical checks and support commissioning activities.
• Review mechanical drawings (GA, P&ID, isometrics, vendor) and coordinate with QA/QC for inspections, material verification and NDT.
• Interface with E&I, civil and other disciplines to ensure proper coordination.
• Participate in daily progress meetings, track subcontractor performance and report to the Construction Manager.
• Enforce HSE regulations, perform risk assessments and ensure safe lifting and rigging on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7–10 years of experience installing static and rotary equipment in oil & gas EPC projects.
• Strong knowledge of piping works, rigging and mechanical installation procedures.

Required skills
