MEAL Assistant

About the role

The MEAL Assistant will support the Danish Refugee Council’s monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning activities across programmes in South‑Central Iraq. Working closely with programme teams, the assistant will help collect, process and analyse both quantitative and qualitative data to inform adaptive programming and ensure community feedback mechanisms are functional.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with routine monitoring visits, household surveys, market assessments, focus group discussions and key informant interviews.
• Support the design, testing and revision of data collection tools aligned with MEAL indicators.
• Help organise training sessions for enumerators and programme staff on monitoring procedures.
• Document field observations, community perspectives, lessons learned and emerging trends.
• Maintain and track community feedback and complaint cases in line with protection principles.
• Prepare and clean monitoring data, compile summaries, dashboards and learning materials.
• Contribute to accountability reporting, case studies and success stories.

Required profile

• University degree in social sciences, development studies, humanitarian affairs or a related field.
• Experience in data collection, monitoring or evaluation within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of community feedback mechanisms and accountability principles.
• Ability to work in challenging field environments and travel to multiple locations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in designing and using monitoring tools and questionnaires.
• Basic data management and analysis skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
