Instrument and Control Senior Engineer

About the role

Wood is recruiting an Instrument and Control Senior Engineer for its Iraq business unit, working on an onshore oil and gas project delivering brownfield engineering and design services for an international client. The role is full-time and on-site in Basra, Iraq, with travel requirements, and reports to the Lead Instrument & Control Engineer / Discipline Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out instrumentation and control engineering for onshore oil and gas production, processing and infrastructure facilities, covering design, analysis, specification, verification and implementation of instrumentation, control, safety, telecom and automation systems.
• Support FEED and detailed design for greenfield developments and brownfield modifications, and take part in site surveys, field verification, constructability and design reviews.
• Prepare and review deliverables such as instrument datasheets, I/O lists, control philosophies, loop drawings, cable schedules, hook-ups, system architecture drawings, material requisitions and technical bid evaluations.
• Develop and review control system designs including DCS, PLC, SCADA, ESD, F&G and SIL assessments.
• Mentor engineers and designers, promote engineering excellence and ensure compliance with HSE policies and technical assurance requirements.
• Represent the discipline in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, design and SIL reviews, client technical meetings, vendor evaluations and technical proposals.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical & Instrumentation, Electronics or Control Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
• Typically 10+ years of instrument and control engineering experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Proven senior or lead instrument engineer role, with experience in both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Membership of a recognised professional engineering body is desirable.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of instrumentation, process control, automation and safety systems.
• Extensive knowledge of DCS, PLC, SCADA, ESD, fire and gas systems and SIL methodologies.
