Industrial Hygiene Specialist

About the role

Wood is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygiene Specialist to join its Iraq Business Unit in Basra. The role focuses on implementing and continuously improving industrial hygiene and occupational health programs on‑site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine and task‑specific IH inspections, exposure assessments and monitoring across production, maintenance, drilling, projects, logistics, workshops and camps.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative hazard assessments for chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic risks and recommend controls using the hierarchy of controls.
• Execute area and personal exposure monitoring for VOC/BTEX, benzene, H2S, CO, SO2, dust, noise, heat stress, illumination, NORM/radiation and other agents.
• Maintain IH instruments and sampling equipment, including calibration, bump tests, preventive maintenance and inventory control.
• Support respiratory protection program, including hazard‑based respirator selection, quantitative fit testing and record‑keeping.
• Review contractor IH plans, conduct joint inspections and ensure compliance with Iraqi regulations and international standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial/occupational hygiene experience, preferably in oil & gas, petrochemical or heavy industry.
• Good proficiency in Arabic and English for written reports and verbal communication.
• Professional certification such as CIH, BOHS occupational hygiene qualification or equivalent is preferred.
