General Accountant

About the role

The General Accountant will oversee daily accounting operations for a busy shopping mall in Baghdad, focusing on cash collection, tenant receivables, parking revenues and store settlements. The role ensures accurate financial records, proper documentation and compliance with Iraqi accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, record and reconcile all cash and bank payments from tenants, parking and other commercial activities.
• Monitor and follow up on outstanding tenant dues, preparing daily cash collection reports for management.
• Manage tenant accounts, issue invoices and receipts, and coordinate with leasing and legal teams for collection actions.
• Record journal entries, maintain the General Ledger, perform month‑end closing and account reconciliations.
• Prepare bank deposits, perform daily bank reconciliations and track cash flow.
• Maintain organized financial records for internal audits and support external auditors with required documentation.
• Ensure compliance with Iraqi financial and tax regulations and implement internal controls to safeguard cash and revenues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum five years of accounting experience, preferably in malls, retail or leasing environments.
• Strong background in cash handling, collections and receivables management.
• Good knowledge of Iraqi financial and tax regulations.
• High level of integrity, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Fluent in Arabic and English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting software/systems.
