ESH Specialist Lead

About the role

The ESH Specialist Lead will be based in Balad, Iraq and will report to the ESH Supervisor. This role is responsible for implementing a management‑system based Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) program, ensuring compliance with regulatory permits and driving continuous improvement across operations.

Key responsibilities

• Implement a standardized, management‑system based ESH program.
• Conduct risk analyses and develop programs that exceed basic regulatory requirements.
• Identify and budget for required resources, including personal protective equipment.
• Determine training needs, deliver and document employee training for various operations.
• Perform and document monthly performance metrics and ESH inspections.
• Administer an employee reward and recognition program.
• Interpret regulatory permits (air, hazardous waste, water) and submit required documentation.
• Communicate directly with senior management, area supervisors, and regulators to ensure program effectiveness.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology or a technical certification in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, or Environmental Management.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Minimum five years of experience in environmental compliance, OSHA compliance, ISO standards, hazardous waste management and pollution prevention.
• Knowledge of Overseas Environmental Baseline Guidance Document (OEBGD), DoD environmental regulations, US Army Safety and Environmental Regulations, Federal OSHA and EPA regulations.
• Supervisory or leadership experience is desired.
