Deputy Fire Chief

About the role

The Deputy Fire Chief will be based in Iraq supporting the LOGCAP program. Reporting to the Fire Chief, this senior leader ensures the fire station operates smoothly, personnel are trained, and emergency services are ready 24/7.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily fire station operations, training, inspections, and fire‑protection system testing.
• Manage installation fire‑emergency services (FES), including master plans, standards of coverage, manpower, equipment, and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with Army Installation Command checklists, Amy Regulation 420‑1, and DoDI 6055.6.
• Provide 24/7 incident management, aircraft rescue, structural firefighting, hazardous‑materials response, technical rescue, and EMS support.
• Monitor service efficiency, recommend staffing levels, and develop fire ordinances.
• Lead, train, evaluate, and discipline fire service personnel.
• Coordinate procurement and distribution of equipment, safety gear, and apparatus.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen able to obtain a Secret Clearance and a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Associate’s degree or higher in fire technology (preferred); one year related experience may substitute for one year of education.
• Fire Officer IV and Fire Instructor II certifications (or equivalent).

Required skills

• Fire inspection and fire‑protection system testing.
• Incident management and emergency response planning.
• Aircraft rescue and structural firefighting.
• Hazardous‑materials response and technical rescue (auto extrication, confined‑space).
• Emergency medical services support.
• Knowledge of Army regulations (Amy 420‑1, DoDI 6055.6) and FES master‑plan development.
