Assistant Fire Chief – Operations

About the role

The Assistant Fire Chief – Operations will be based in Iraq supporting LOGCAP and will report directly to the Deputy Fire Chief. This senior leadership role oversees fire district administration, coordinates fire prevention and emergency response for Army installations, and serves as the primary liaison with camp commanders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) programs supporting camps, ammunition supply points, heliports, dormitories, and specialized facilities.
• Develop and maintain shift schedules, ensuring adequate staffing and vehicle coverage for fire stations.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance, inspections, and operational readiness of fire station assets.
• Lead multi‑agency emergency incidents, assigning resources to mitigate structural fires, aircraft fires, hazardous‑materials events, and medical emergencies.
• Conduct fire investigations and provide risk‑management leadership.
• Develop the department’s strategic master plan and oversee its implementation.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for fire‑prevention and emergency‑operation issues with camp commanders.
• Represent the fire department at community events to enhance its public image.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in fire service operations and leadership.
• Proven ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of fire regulations, safety practices, and emergency‑response protocols.
