National Programme Officer – Prevention of Violent Extremism & Rehabilitation

About the role

The National Programme Officer will support IOM Iraq’s Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) programme, working closely with the Government of Iraq to pilot the National Strategy to Combat Violent Extremism in six locations. The role involves analysing drivers of extremism, coordinating multi‑stakeholder actions and strengthening community resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse underlying drivers, motivations and vulnerabilities that contribute to violent extremism in target communities.
• Support the implementation of the National Strategy by developing and rolling out location‑specific Plans of Action.
• Facilitate coordination among local and regional authorities, civil society organisations, and community groups.
• Monitor and evaluate interventions, producing analytical reports and recommendations for policy makers.
• Provide technical assistance and capacity‑building to partners on PVE and rehabilitation approaches.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in peacebuilding, security studies, social sciences or a related field.
• Relevant professional experience in prevention of violent extremism, rehabilitation, or related programmes, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Demonstrated experience working with government agencies, NGOs and community stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency is an asset.
