Airfield Operations Specialist

About the role

The Airfield Operations Specialist is based in Balad, Iraq and is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of the airfield. The role ensures a safe, secure, and efficient environment for both local and transient aircraft, coordinating runway maintenance, safety checks, and communications with air traffic control.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect all airfield areas, including pavements, markings, lighting, wildlife hazards, fencing, construction zones, and foreign object debris (FOD).
• Operate vehicles on the airfield and maintain communication with the control tower.
• Coordinate runway closures, construction activities, and maintenance repairs with minimal impact on flight operations.
• Respond to in‑flight and ground emergencies, manage event logs, flight schedules, and airfield status boards.
• Issue Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) via the FAA system and enforce a FOD‑free environment.
• Train new airfield drivers and oversee wildlife control measures such as BASH cannons.
• Collaborate with other departments, agencies, foreign governments, and nationals to ensure seamless operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma (minimum) and USAF Airfield Management 5‑Skill level certification.
• At least three years of airfield management experience plus three years in a shift‑lead or equivalent role.
• Ability to work rotating day and night shifts in a high‑stress environment.
