Senior Accountant

About the role

Al Fakher Al Mithaliya, a manufacturer and distributor of well-known brands in Iraq, is hiring a Senior Accountant for a full-time, on-site position in Baghdad. The accountant manages day-to-day accounting operations, oversees month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing, ensures accurate financial reporting and supports budget preparation and variance analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review journal entries and maintain general ledgers
• Reconcile accounts and oversee monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes
• Ensure accurate financial reporting and support budget preparation and variance analysis
• Monitor compliance with local regulations and internal policies, and coordinate with external auditors
• Help improve financial controls and procedures, collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide financial insights to management
• Support the implementation of accounting systems and process improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are an advantage
• Several years of progressive accounting experience, with experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred
• Ability to work on-site in Baghdad and handle financial information with high ethical standards and confidentiality

Required skills

• Financial accounting and reporting, including general ledger management, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation
• Budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
• Accounting software and ERP systems, and solid MS Excel skills
• Knowledge of Iraqi accounting standards, tax regulations and compliance requirements
