Fire and General Accidents Underwriting Manager

About the role

Al Janoub Takaful Insurance is hiring an experienced Fire and General Accidents Underwriting Manager to set up and run the company's underwriting function. The manager ensures that every risk accepted is properly assessed, priced, documented and backed by adequate re-takaful protection. The role is based in Karrada, Baghdad, with on-site work from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, five days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the underwriting strategy, risk appetite, guidelines and delegated authority framework.
• Set technical pricing standards, risk assessment procedures, referral limits and portfolio monitoring arrangements.
• Supervise underwriting of Fire, General Accidents, Financial Lines and Liabilities.
• Assess major or complex risks and recommend acceptance, pricing, deductibles, exclusions and limits.
• Coordinate with the re-takaful function to secure capacity and risk transfer before risks are bound.
• Monitor portfolio profitability, claims experience, exposure accumulation and underwriting performance.
• Develop policy wordings, quotation templates, underwriting checklists and technical documentation.
• Build working relationships with brokers, re-takaful providers, risk surveyors and other technical service providers.
• Ensure compliance with the approved Takaful model, regulatory requirements and Shariah governance arrangements.
• Recruit, train and supervise underwriting staff.
• Submit monthly technical performance reports to the CEO covering production, claims, pricing adequacy, capacity use and policy exceptions.

Required profile

• 5 to 8 years of relevant general insurance experience.
• At least two years in senior underwriting, technical management or a comparable leadership position.
• Demonstrated experience in commercial property or other complex corporate insurance risks.
• Experience managing brokers, corporate accounts and technically complex placements.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of reinsurance or re-takaful arrangements, risk accumulation and underwriting authority controls.
• Technical underwriting and pricing of fire and general accidents risks.
