Payroll General Accountant

About the role

A hotel group is looking for a detail-oriented and organized Payroll General Accountant to join its finance team in Baghdad, Iraq. The role covers payroll operations, accurate compensation processing and compliance with local tax and labour regulations, in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process and calculate payroll for all employees accurately and on time
• Maintain payroll records and documentation in line with Iraqi labour laws and tax regulations
• Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate discrepancies
• Prepare payroll reports and analysis for management review
• Verify employee compensation, deductions and benefits data
• Keep payroll system entries up to date and coordinate with HR and Finance on employee data
• Run regular payroll audits and support month-end and year-end closing
• Ensure all payroll activities comply with local tax requirements and organisational policies

Required profile

• Proven experience in payroll processing and general accounting
• Knowledge of Iraqi tax regulations, labour laws and employment compliance
• Strong numerical and analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
• Good time management to meet strict payroll deadlines
• Interpersonal skills and ability to keep confidential employee information secure
• Preferred: experience in the Iraqi business environment or with Middle Eastern payroll systems
