Chief Child Survival & Development – Baghdad

About the role

The Chief Child Survival & Development (CSD) leads UNICEF Iraq’s strategy to improve child survival and development outcomes by integrating health, nutrition, and WASH programmes. Reporting to the Deputy Representative, the role combines technical leadership with cross‑sectoral coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and ensure high‑quality delivery of health, nutrition, and WASH interventions.
• Oversee programme design, planning, monitoring and results delivery, with focus on early childhood development and climate‑change resilience.
• Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team, fostering cross‑sector collaboration.
• Mobilise resources efficiently and support system‑strengthening and policy dialogue.
• Provide advisory services, advocacy, networking and partnership building.
• Drive innovation, knowledge management and capacity‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public health, nutrition, health policy/management, global health, environmental health sciences, water resources engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum eight years of professional experience in health, nutrition and/or WASH programmes for developing or middle‑income countries.
• Proven experience supervising teams and at least one year of humanitarian work.
• Demonstrated leadership, planning, delivery and partnership experience.
