Optical Department Manager (Optometrist)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Optical Department Manager with a strong background in optometry to lead our Optical/Optometry Department. The successful candidate will combine clinical expertise with leadership, operational, and customer‑service skills to ensure high‑quality eye examinations and seamless patient flow.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage daily operations of the Optical/Optometry Department.
• Perform and supervise comprehensive eye examinations and optometric assessments.
• Ensure accurate vision testing and high‑quality patient care.
• Manage, supervise, and evaluate optometrists, assistants, and department staff.
• Develop staff schedules, assign responsibilities, and monitor attendance and performance.
• Provide coaching, training, and professional development for the optometry team.
• Establish and maintain SOPs for examinations and department operations.
• Monitor examination quality and ensure compliance with standards.
• Improve patient flow and reduce waiting times through effective workflow management.
• Coordinate referrals with ophthalmologists and other departments.
• Collaborate with the Optical Gallery to streamline transition from exam to eyewear selection.
• Work with Marketing to develop campaigns, promotions, and educational content.
• Analyze performance metrics and prepare regular reports for management.
• Identify operational challenges and implement solutions to increase efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Optometry.
• Proven experience as an optometrist, preferably in a hospital, eye centre, or optical environment.
• Previous supervisory or managerial experience is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of optometric examinations, refraction, visual acuity assessment, and basic ocular health assessment.
• Understanding of optical products, lenses, frames, and the eyewear sales process.
