Welding Surveillance Specialist – Basra

About the role

Bureau Veritas Iraq is seeking an experienced Welding Surveillance professional to join its on‑site team in Basra. You will be responsible for ensuring that pipeline welding activities meet all technical specifications, codes, and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Witness, monitor, and record welding parameters during pipeline welding operations.
• Verify that welding is performed in accordance with approved WPS and project ITP requirements.
• Check welder qualifications and ensure work stays within approved qualification ranges.
• Inspect fit‑up activities, including root gap, alignment, bevel angle, and internal misalignment using appropriate gauges.
• Monitor pre‑heating, interpass temperature, and post‑weld heat treatment (PWHT) as required.
• Review and witness Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and welder qualification tests.
• Coordinate with NDT personnel to release welds for inspection.
• Ensure compliance with API 1104, ASME Section IX, ASME B31.3, and API 5L standards.
• Track welding productivity and quality against project KPIs and raise NCRs when deviations occur.
• Prepare accurate daily welding surveillance and inspection reports.

Required profile

• 10+ years of welding surveillance experience, preferably on cross‑country pipeline projects.
• At least one certification such as CWI, BGAS‑CSWIP, IIW IWE, or equivalent.
• Minimum CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification and an engineering degree.
• 5+ years experience with the specific commodity or process being welded.
• NDT Level‑II certification (RT, PT, UT, MT) and solid knowledge of welding techniques.
• Familiarity with PWHT, pre‑heating, fit‑up gauges, PQR, and welder qualification procedures.
