Welder – Naval Vessel Maintenance (Umm Qasr, Iraq)

About the role

Amentum is looking for an experienced Welder to support the maintenance and repair of various naval vessels at the Iraqi Naval Base in Umm Qasr. The role involves performing welding, structural repairs, and fabrications on offshore support vessels, patrol boats, Defender class craft and RHIBs.

Key responsibilities

• Execute welding, modifications and fabrications to maintain structural integrity of naval vessels.
• Collaborate with the VMR support team, including industrial, site and project managers, to plan and report tasks.
• Provide technical welding expertise onboard OSV, PB, Defender class and RHIB vessels.
• Identify safety, quality or schedule issues and recommend mitigation actions.
• Develop solutions to minimise equipment downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Assess material requirements, install and configure equipment, and inspect for defects.
• Participate in weekly teleconferences, Work Definition Conferences and comply with CRDL requirements.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum six years progressive experience servicing ship or submarine systems; at least four years of welding aboard ships or similar aluminum/steel structures.
• Specialized training in welding and familiarity with NDT and OQE procedures.
• US citizenship, ability to obtain country clearance and base pass.
• Valid passport for at least two years after arrival in Iraq and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
• Proficiency in English (verbal and written) and ability to work independently or in a team.
