Quality Engineer – Oil, Water & Chemicals

About the role

Wood is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to lead quality monitoring, inspection, analysis and continuous improvement of crude oil, water and production chemicals during oilfield operations in Basra, Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and special quality inspections on crude oil, produced water, injection water and treated water, tracking key parameters and ensuring compliance with specifications.
• Inspect incoming production chemicals, verify certificates, conduct sampling and testing, and monitor chemical quality throughout storage, handling, dilution and field application.
• Control the full process from sampling to field application to prevent non‑conforming products from entering the supply chain.
• Collect, verify and analyse quality data, prepare reports and recommend optimisation actions for production and chemical treatment.
• Investigate quality abnormalities, lead root‑cause analysis, implement corrective actions and maintain a closed‑loop quality management system.
• Implement corporate QA/QC procedures, support audits and ensure HSE compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of oilfield experience in chemical management, production chemistry or QA/QC.
• Strong knowledge of crude oil processing, water treatment, production stimulation and upstream laboratory analytical methods.
• Experience working with international oil companies or specialised chemical supply firms.
• Willingness to spend up to 50% of time on field assignments.
