About the role

Koya University, a public university in Koya (Koysinjaq), about an hour's drive east of Erbil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, is hiring a full-time, on-site Professor. The university was established in 2003, restructured in 2010 into a faculty-based system, and now includes four faculties and a School of Medicine covering 25 departments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and regularly update courses aligned with departmental standards, including syllabi, lectures, assignments and assessments for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
• Teach, mentor and advise students, and supervise research projects and theses.
• Maintain an active research agenda with publications and scholarly contributions.
• Take part in departmental and faculty committees, contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance, and support accreditation and evaluation activities.
• Engage in community outreach, collaborate on interdisciplinary initiatives and contribute to the academic and institutional life of the university.

Required profile

• Advanced academic qualifications, typically a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution.
• Demonstrated experience in university-level teaching, including course design, delivery, assessment and student mentoring.
• Strong research record or clear potential, shown through publications, conference participation or ongoing scholarly projects.
• Willingness to work on-site in Koya and engage with the local and regional community.
• Experience with curriculum development, quality assurance or accreditation is highly beneficial.

Required skills

• Clear lecturing, effective writing and constructive feedback to students.
• Ability to collaborate in diverse academic teams and contribute to committees.
• Familiarity with digital tools for teaching, research and academic administration, such as learning management systems.
