National Consultant – Biodiversity and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation Specialist

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a National Consultant to provide expert technical support on biodiversity assessment, Ecosystem‑Based Adaptation (EbA) and environmental conflict analysis. The consultant will contribute to the design and implementation of climate‑resilient interventions that strengthen sustainable agricultural livelihoods and ecosystem health in Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive biodiversity and ecosystem assessments in project areas.
• Analyse the impacts of climate change, environmental degradation and unsustainable agricultural practices on natural resources.
• Provide evidence‑based technical recommendations to integrate biodiversity conservation and EbA into project interventions.
• Support the development of climate‑resilience strategies that mitigate resource scarcity and reduce conflict drivers.
• Collaborate closely with project teams, local partners and stakeholders to ensure alignment with IOM’s objectives.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in environmental science, ecology, natural resources management or a related field.
• Proven experience in biodiversity assessment and Ecosystem‑Based Adaptation projects, preferably in conflict‑affected or fragile contexts.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate climate and environmental data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
