Medical Laboratory Technician – Locum (Iraq)

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will deliver comprehensive laboratory services to Department of State, Department of Defense and contractor personnel operating in Iraq. Working on a locum rotation (30 days active, 120 days inactive), the MLT supports clinical diagnostics across a range of specimen types.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and process biological specimens such as blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen.
• Perform routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry and blood banking.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Record, verify and report test results promptly and accurately.
• Collaborate with pathologists and medical staff to interpret findings and support patient care.
• Participate actively in mass‑casualty exercises and related emergency response activities.
• Complete required compliance training and certifications as mandated by Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services or other regulatory bodies.

Required profile

• Qualified Medical Laboratory Technician with experience in a clinical or field setting.
• Ability to work in a high‑stress, austere environment and adhere to strict safety protocols.
• Willingness to engage in mass‑casualty drills and maintain readiness for emergency situations.
