Preventative Medicine Specialist – Food & Water Safety

About the role

International SOS Government Medical Services is seeking a Preventative Medicine Specialist to support food and water safety programs in Balad, Iraq. You will work onsite with department managers to implement preventative medicine plans that protect dining facilities, water purification units, and related operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide subject‑matter expertise for dining facilities, retail concessions, reverse‑osmosis water purification, potable water, and ice plant operations.
• Inspect storage areas, food packaging, and deliveries; review water test results and collaborate with the prime contractor to prevent food‑borne and water‑borne illnesses.
• Support disease surveillance, vector control, waste management, and outbreak mitigation activities.
• Maintain compliance with inspection schedules, medical technical bulletins, and regulatory certifications such as Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in preventative medicine, focusing on food and water safety.
• Education or training equivalent to Preventative Specialist, MOS 68S, or an international equivalent.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to obtain medical clearance, maintain current immunizations, and hold a valid passport.
