Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

About the role

International SOS Government Medical Services seeks an executive clinical leader to direct a remote‑site healthcare program. The Chief Medical Officer will combine senior medical governance with active patient care, ensuring high‑quality, safe, and compliant services for a diverse workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical governance, quality improvement, patient safety, infection control, medical record standards, credentialing, and emergency preparedness across the program.
• Oversee physicians, surgeons, advanced practice providers, dentists and other medical personnel, providing strategic direction and chairing the Medical Executive Committee.
• Guide case management, medical referrals, patient movement decisions and coordinate medical evacuations with external partners.
• Participate in organizational planning, policy development, audits, operational readiness and business continuity from a medical leadership perspective.
• Deliver direct patient care including evaluation, triage, diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, immunizations, testing and documentation.

Required profile

• MD or DO with residency in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine and current unrestricted U.S. medical license.
• 5+ years post‑residency practice in the United States with recent direct patient care experience.
• Ability to provide executive clinical leadership while maintaining active patient care in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness to relocate internationally and maintain required medical clearances and immunizations.

Required skills

• Current BLS, ACLS and ATLS certifications.
• DEA registration (or equivalent).
• Experience with medical governance, credentialing, peer review and emergency preparedness.
