Medical Laboratory Technician – Iraq

About the role

International SOS is seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician to provide comprehensive laboratory services for Department of State, Department of Defense and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The role is a locum rotation, combining active duty periods with standby intervals, and involves performing a wide range of diagnostic tests on various biological samples.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, label, and process biological specimens such as blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen.
• Perform routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, and blood banking.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate results.
• Adhere to safety protocols and keep the laboratory environment clean and compliant.
• Record, verify and report test results promptly.
• Collaborate with pathologists and medical staff to interpret findings and support patient care.
• Participate in mass‑casualty exercises and complete required compliance training.

Required profile

• Relevant certification or degree in medical laboratory technology or a related field.
• Experience conducting hematology, microbiology, chemistry and blood‑bank analyses.
• Ability to work in an austere, remote environment and follow strict safety standards.
• Willingness to engage in on‑call rotations and mass‑casualty drills.
