Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Vehicle Sustainment

About the role

MANTECH is seeking a motivated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join its vehicle sustainment team in Ankawa, Iraq. The role supports the Allied Logistics Engineering Capabilities Sustainment (ALECS) program, providing maintenance and logistics support for a wide range of vehicle families worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Research, design and develop new applications for electro‑mechanical equipment and systems.
• Review contractor standards, specifications and documentation to determine mechanical engineering requirements.
• Design, repair and review gas and diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, ventilation and instrumentation systems.
• Gather data and perform routine engineering R&D, including calculations and simple tests.
• Guide technicians in fabrication and installation of mechanical equipment to ensure compliance with design and customer specifications.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of qualified mechanical experience with light/heavy trucks, tactical vehicles, generators, power plants or similar diesel/gas‑powered equipment.
• Proven maintenance background in industrial manufacturing, commercial or military operations.
• Experience troubleshooting, designing, installing and repairing U.S. systems and subsystems to component level.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening, hold a valid driver’s license, high school diploma or GED, and a passport valid for at least one year.
• U.S. citizenship with an active Secret clearance.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb, work in high‑noise areas and perform various manual tasks.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline engines.
• Hydraulic, pneumatic and ventilation system servicing.
• Use of hand tools, diagnostic tools, power tools and multimeters.
• Industrial troubleshooting procedures.
• Forklift operation (preferred).
• Manual transmission vehicle operation (preferred).
