Education Officer (Governance, Access & Learning)

About the role

The Education Officer will be based in the South Field Office in Basra and will lead the coordination, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of UNICEF’s education programme across the southern region of Iraq. Reporting administratively to the Chief of Field Office and technically to the Chief of Education, the officer will support the delivery of equitable, high‑quality education services for the most disadvantaged children.

Key responsibilities

• Lead coordination and planning of the education programme in the southern region.
• Oversee implementation, monitoring and reporting of programme activities.
• Strengthen governance of the education system and support system‑building initiatives.
• Expand equitable access to quality education for disadvantaged children and families.
• Provide technical and operational assistance throughout the programme cycle, from development planning to results delivery.
• Ensure compliance with UNICEF’s strategic direction, technical standards and quality assurance processes.

Required profile

• Professional experience in education programme management, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Ability to work under the supervision of senior staff while delivering high‑quality technical and administrative support.
• Strong understanding of education governance, equity and access issues.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
