Deputy Team Leader – Armed Security (Basra, Iraq)

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Team Member who will act as Deputy Team Leader (2IC) to provide armed and non‑armed protection for client contracts in high‑risk environments, primarily in Basra, Iraq. The role involves upholding Control Risks’ low‑profile standards while ensuring the safety of personnel and assets.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate client etiquette, discipline and Control Risks’ low‑profile approach.
• Stay informed on local threats and conduct vehicle and dismounted contact drills.
• Perform navigation tasks using map‑reading, compass and GPS.
• Operate vehicle‑mounted and handheld communications systems.
• Comply with Rules of Engagement and maintain competence through regular assessments.
• Manage administration including vehicle maintenance, equipment accountability and reporting.
• Assist in risk assessments, operational planning and brief clients as required.
• Conduct venue and route reconnaissance and produce detailed reports.
• Issue orders to team members and provide direction to clients.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of military or police experience, including at least 6 months operational deployment.
• Fluent English speaker and writer.
• Available for short‑notice deployment to Iraq.
• Preferably 12 months commercial experience in the country and experience managing operations for oil & gas clients or local guard forces.

Required skills

• Navigation proficiency: map‑reading, compass and GPS usage.
• Operation of vehicle‑mounted and handheld communications equipment.
• Valid SIA Frontline Close Protection Licence.
• Certificates: FPOSi Level 3, FPOS Level 3/4, FREC Level 3.
• BTEC Level 3 Close Protection Certificate (or equivalent).
