Deputy Team Leader – Armed Security (Basra, Iraq)

About the role

Control Risks is seeking a Deputy Team Leader to provide armed (and occasional non‑armed) protection for client contracts in high‑risk environments, primarily in Basra, Iraq. You will uphold the highest standards of security, represent the team to clients, and ensure compliance with the company’s SOPs.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate client etiquette, discipline and a low‑profile approach.
• Stay informed on local threats and conduct vehicle and dismounted contact drills.
• Perform navigation tasks using maps, compass and GPS.
• Operate vehicle‑mounted and handheld communications systems.
• Comply with Rules of Engagement and maintain competence through formal assessments.
• Manage administration such as vehicle maintenance, equipment accountability and reporting.
• Assist in risk assessments, operational planning and issue orders to team members.
• Brief clients, conduct venue and route recces, produce reports and command the team.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years military or police experience, with at least 6 months operational exposure.
• Fluent English speaking and writing.
• Available for short‑notice deployment and fully compliant to work in Iraq.
• Preferred: 12 months commercial experience in Iraq, oil‑&‑gas client operations, local guard‑force management, prior work with Control Risks.
