Deputy Team Leader – Armed Security (Basra, Iraq)

About the role

Control Risks is seeking a Deputy Team Leader to provide armed (and occasionally non‑armed) protection security for client contracts in high‑risk environments, primarily in Basra, Iraq. The role involves upholding the highest standards of client service while adhering to Control Risks' low‑profile approach and standard operating procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate client etiquette, discipline and a low‑profile approach.
• Stay informed on local threats and key issues.
• Conduct vehicle and dismounted contact and immediate‑action drills.
• Perform navigation tasks using map‑reading, compass and GPS.
• Operate vehicle‑mounted and handheld communications systems.
• Comply with Rules of Engagement and maintain competence through formal assessments.
• Manage vehicle maintenance, equipment accountability and reporting.
• Assist in risk assessments and operational planning.
• Issue orders, brief clients and conduct venue and route recce reports.
• Command the team and provide direction to clients as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of military or police experience, including at least 6 months operational experience.
• Fluent English speaker and writer.
• Available for short‑notice deployment.
• Valid SIA Frontline Close Protection Licence and relevant FPOS/FREC certifications.
• Preferred: 12 months commercial experience in Iraq, experience with oil & gas clients, and managing local guard forces.
