Cost Engineer (Onsite)

About the role

The Cost Engineer will join KBR’s IFMS project in Basra, Iraq, reporting to the Project Control Manager. This onsite position is responsible for managing all cost‑related aspects of the contract, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project cost control budgets based on the client‑approved Project Control Estimate.
• Set up and manage projects within the cost management system, ensuring data accuracy and timely updates.
• Review cost commitments and expenditures weekly, producing cost reports and highlighting potential overruns.
• Maintain registers of financial approvals, variations and change orders.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Finance, Contracts and Procurement to evaluate work performed, goods received and services rendered for invoice preparation.
• Ensure compliance with contract cost procedures and implement any project‑specific cost procedures.
• Monitor and update rates in the computerized cost system, including rate uplifts.
• Assist in obtaining client approvals for additional costs and advise management on cost impacts.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in cost engineering or project cost control.
• Ability to work on a 28‑day on‑site/28‑day off‑site rotation.
• Expats only – candidates must be eligible to work in Iraq.

Required skills

• Proficiency with cost management and reporting systems.
