Communication Officer – WHO Representative Office, Baghdad

About the role

The Communication Officer will work under the direct supervision of the WHO Representative in Iraq, supporting the promotion of WHO programmes and public health information across Iraq. The role involves developing communication materials, managing media relations and maintaining digital channels to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of health messages.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies, action plans and SOPs aligned with WHO country priorities.
• Produce high‑quality communication materials such as press releases, success stories, multimedia products, talking points, position statements and advocacy briefs.
• Disseminate public health information through newsletters, web stories, internal briefings and social media platforms.
• Maintain and update a multimedia database of photos, videos and other content related to health programmes.
• Coordinate with external communication suppliers (photographers, graphic designers, social media specialists) and maintain a roster for WHO needs.
• Monitor and update WHO Iraq’s website and social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) in line with organisational guidelines.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Health, UN agencies, donors and partners on joint communication and advocacy activities.

Required profile

• Under direct supervision of the WHO Representative with technical guidance from WHO officers.
• Ability to exchange information with national counterparts, partner organisations and official authorities.
• Strong organisational skills to manage multiple communication products and deadlines.

Required skills

• Experience in drafting press releases, success stories and advocacy briefs.
• Proficiency in managing website content and social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter).
• Ability to coordinate with external media and communications suppliers.
