Airfield Lighting Electrician – Balad, Iraq

About the role

We are looking for a full‑time Airfield Lighting Electrician to support 24/7 aviation operations at Balad Air Base in Iraq. The role ensures safe, efficient and compliant operation of runway, taxiway and apron electrical systems in a deployed environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade airfield electrical distribution systems and related infrastructure.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on panels, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, generators and other distribution equipment.
• Diagnose faults using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers (Megger) and conduct cable, continuity and grounding tests.
• Install, modify and commission electrical circuits, conduits and wiring supporting runway and taxiway operations.
• Ensure compliance with FAA, ICAO, UFC, OSHA, NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Support airfield inspections, operational readiness assessments and emergency outage response.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders and technical documentation.
• Coordinate activities with Airfield Management, Operations and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Fluent in spoken, written and reading English.
• Valid driver’s license and passport with at least 12 months validity from start date.
• Ability to work in a deployed, 24/7 aviation environment.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use standard software applications.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Use of multimeter, clamp meter and insulation resistance tester (Megger).
• Cable testing, continuity testing and grounding verification.
• Installation and commissioning of circuits, conduits and wiring.
• Interpretation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of FAA, ICAO, UFC, OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
