Environment Health Safety Lead

About the role

The Environment Health Safety Lead will develop and implement comprehensive HSE policies for PEG's projects in Iraq and other locations, ensuring compliance with legal and corporate standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement health, safety, and environmental policies in line with legal and corporate guidelines.
• Conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and devise preventative strategies.
• Organise safety training for employees to ensure awareness of practices and legislation.
• Monitor compliance, perform site inspections, and prepare detailed reports.
• Lead emergency response initiatives and investigate incidents to determine causes and preventive measures.
• Advise on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, occupational diseases, and waste management.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with internal leadership and external regulatory bodies to uphold compliance standards.
• Implement health and safety plans that meet company policies and statutory standards.
• Oversee environmental performance and ensure adherence to legal environmental standards.
• Handle internal and external safety/regulatory audits.
• Coordinate with HR to ensure physical examinations and medical clearances are completed.
• Develop and maintain HSE documentation, including inspection forms and training modules.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field.
• NEBOSH IGC certification.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of legal health and safety guidelines relevant to the industry.
• Several years of experience in an HSE role, ideally within oil & gas or a closely related sector.
