Open Rank Faculty Position in Optometry & Vision Science

About the role

The American University of Iraq, Baghdad (AUIB) seeks an Open Rank Faculty member in Optometry and Vision Science to join its College of Healthcare Technologies. The role involves teaching, research, and service activities that advance optometry education and regional healthcare innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Teach basic and advanced theoretical and laboratory courses for undergraduate optics and optometry students.
• Design and update modules and programs in emerging optometry and opticianry domains.
• Develop and lead multidisciplinary research collaborations in optometry, opticianry and ophthalmology, aiming for publications and external funding.
• Contribute to the creation and improvement of testing and research laboratories within the College of Healthcare Technologies.
• Deliver continuous‑education programs in optometry, vision science and medical imaging for the region.
• Participate in assessment, committee work and other academic service at the college and university.

Required profile

• Professional doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in Optometry, Vision Science or a closely related field from a reputable university.
• Post‑doctoral experience preferred; candidates with background in US‑style institutions are favored.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience at a recognized university.
• Strong research record or interest in optometry, opticianry, ophthalmology or medical imaging.
