General Accountant

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company, is looking for a General Accountant to join its Finance team in Iraq. The role covers general accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations and cash management, with a good understanding of Iraqi accounting practices.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with the Shared Service Center on postings and corrections, and prepare monthly accruals, prepayments, depreciation and closing adjustments.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts, supplier and customer statements, and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain fixed asset records and prepare weekly payment proposals, cash reports and bank reconciliations, including cash-flow forecasts.
• Manage advances, deposits and outstanding balances, and track unbilled revenue and overdue receivables.
• Prepare payroll accounting entries, tax schedules and statutory reporting documents, and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in Iraq and within a multinational or service-based business.
• Practical experience in month-end closing, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management.
• Working knowledge of Iraqi accounting practices, banking procedures and local compliance.
• Professional Arabic and English; Kurdish is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
• Familiarity with Odoo or SunSystems is an advantage.
